Animosity

She sits silently across from him in the train car. Hands laced tightly together rest uneasily in her lap. She stares intently at them, as if looking up at her companion might throw her into the depths of hell.. He shifts slightly, uncrossing his legs only to recross them. She doesn't even look up, not even the slightest flicker of her eyes. He stares at her though, eyebrows knitted together and back rigid against the cushion of his seat. He stares at her and studies her. Studies the way her blue hair flows like water from the crown of her head down to the curls that form just underneath her chin. He notes the way the dark blue fabric of her coat clashes greatly against her pale skin. The way the fur on her collar ruffles slightly with every exhale. But it is the Teru Teru Bozu pinned at her neck that moves him. Its stitched unseeing eyes and half smiling mouth, speak to him silently. He has to make amends, it tells him.

"I apologize for before." Her head raises slowly and she stares at him in confusion.

"For calling you a Phantom Girl." He continues, giving her a small smile. "It was very rude of me. You are a most remarkable member of Fairy Tail." She is taken aback for a moment. Admittedly she was uncomfortable when the master had assigned her this mission with him. He had not hidden his disdain of her, when they first met. And not once since that time, had he made an effort to form a comradeship with her.

"N...No, no. It is fine. Juvia is-er-was a Phantom Lord member indeed." Juvia smiles slightly at him. "Master Jose was the first to accept Juvia ever. So Phantom Lord will always be a treasured memory for Juvia. A blush rises on Juvia's cheek and she once again lowers her eyes to her hands.

"But Juvia...Juvia really does love Fairy Tail." Her companion laughs and sets both feet on the floor.

"I hated you. I hated you so much. I hated the fact that you – one who had inflicted so much damage on our precious guild- were allowed to join the guild." Juvia doesn't respond. She bites her bottom lip and blinks back tears that fall anyway. The man reaches forward brushing them away with the pad of his thumb.

"But he- Luxus- he hated you even more. He wanted me to kill you. Ordered me to kill you. I think I would...no I know I would have killed you. If you had defeated Cana, I would have ended you." He stares at her remorsefully, searching for salvation within her eyes.

"Fried-san, Juvia...Juvia..." He silences her with a finger. He bows his head, green hair falling over his face.

"But then you sacrificed yourself. You- a stupid Phantom girl- sacrificed herself. Do you know how amazingly stupid that was? You could very well have died. Yet still instead of attacking Cana, you sacrificed yourself." He removes his finger and raises his head once more to look at her.

"You sacrificed yourself." Fried chuckles "You are so amazing! A true member of Fairy Tail." Juvia smiles at Fried, tears glistening in her eyes.

Slowly the train rolls to a stop. Fried rises and offers a hand to his companion. As they beginning pulling their luggage off the overhead rack, he chuckles.

"You and Luxus would be good together." Juvia stares at him indignant.

"Lightning and Water are opposites." She insists.

"Opposites attract" He counters. Juvia thinks on this and grimaces.

"By that account, Juvia would be best with Natsu-san." She frowns and Fried laughs at her.

"Nah, that is too much of an opposite there. Luxus is lighting and you are the rain. And often times Lighting strikes during the rain. Plus Luxus is over his power hungry kick." Juvia's frown deepens.

"Juvia's heart belongs to Gray-sama." Juvia insists. Fried laughs loudly. As he steps down off the train and towards their mission, Juvia stares at his back as a true member of Fairy.
